MapleStory Fest design Assets

Visual assets created for various MSF Projects.

MapleStory Fest officially began on April 14, 2018, but it was an idea that had been floating around in brainstorming sessions for quite some time. I always supported anyone who brought it up, and eventually, the idea gained enough traction to become a reality.

At the time, we were actively working on three different versions of MapleStory—MapleStory, MapleStory M, and MapleStory 2—with the latter two set to launch later that year. It felt like the perfect moment to bring together our most passionate fans for a dedicated community event.

As soon as the creative team received official requests, I jumped in headfirst. It turned out to be one of the most complex and fast-paced initiatives I’ve worked on in my career, with extensive back-and-forth collaboration between our U.S. and Korean offices. At one point, I had over 20 different design directions in motion at once.

In Game item concepts

I’ve created concept designs for in-game items that are gifted to players as rewards for participating in both in-person and online events like MapleFest. Once approved, these designs are handed off to the development team for final production and implementation into the game.

Merch Designs

For MapleFest 2023, I was approached with a question: did we have any 3D models available that could be used to create event merchandise? At the time, we didn’t—but I was eager to help bring dynamic, memorable merch to life for the festival. I asked for an hour to mock something up and quickly created a prototype keycap design featuring the iconic MapleStory Mushroom.

The sample caught everyone’s attention and kickstarted a larger conversation around custom merch. As a result, we moved forward with producing two unique keycap designs to be gifted to guests at the event. At the end of MapleFest, attendees received one of the two designs at random as they exited the venue. Watching people light up as they realized what they’d been gifted was one of the most rewarding moments of the event.
